One sunny Saturday, my dad, my sister, and I arrived at the park, ready for a morning of basketball. However, we found a large kids' camp occupying the entire court. While we waited and played badminton, I started to look around. I spotted several other children standing on the sidelines, clutching their basketballs and looking disappointed. They were too shy to say anything, and it made me realize that someone needed to speak up: not just for me, but for all of us.
I observed that the camp wasn't actually using the hoops for their drills. Even though my heart was racing a little, I knew that being a leader means looking out for the community. I asked my dad for his support, took a deep breath, and walked over to the camp director.
I didn't go there to complain. I went there to find a solution. I politely asked if the camp could move their minigames to the grass so the neighborhood kids could use the hoops. I explained that we were all hoping to share the park together. The director was very kind and agreed immediately, realizing they didn't need the pavement for their activity.
More kids joining to play
As the court cleared, I waved the other waiting kids over. Soon, the sound of basketballs bouncing filled the air. I felt a quiet sense of pride: not because we got the court, but because I helped make sure everyone at the park had a fair chance to have fun. Sometimes, all it takes is a little observation and a polite voice to make a big difference.
Next time you see someone left out or a space that isn't being shared fairly, take a deep breath and look for a solution. A polite suggestion can change someone's entire day!
